I took an e-bike kayak camping in open water
When for the first time to Jackrabbit XG ProMy instinct was to take it to a wild place. Certainly, this is designed to be a compact and entertaining ride for urban and out-of-road tourism-but what if I even use it even more? What if I used it to hug a kayak … to the beach … and then I did that kayak with an electronic bike that was closed to an abandoned island to go to camping?
Sometimes bad ideas become great stories. That was one of these.
May remember that I recently covered the launch Of this new wild micro -E bike (which is not technically one Bike Because of the lack of pedal, as my commentators certainly point out). The 35-pound light ride (16.7 kg) can be off-road 20 miles per hour-or 24 miles per hour (32 to 39 km / h) and has 749 watts of power with 48 miles (77 km).
So basically, a great deal of function in the frame is something that is felt like a small format -controlled electronic bike.
And in half of the weight of most out -of -road electronic bicycles, this is the only one I can find that can pull 100+ pounds (45kg) of kayak and camping equipment in off -road conditions, including uphill through sand, and still small enough to carry it in the free water. Or at least it was the program, and I hope this will continue to work.

Towing a kayak with a micro E 37 bicycle bike
Jackrabbit XG Pro is often referred to as “micro E” but feels a micro E bike may kill all my gears.
I connected a DIY trailer to my 10 -foot sit -in (screaming at my father, since I stole the trailer that he had made for his older kayak to get it from the van to the ramp ramps) and loaded it with enough gear to keep me comfortable for a night island camp.
Then I hit the road-a compound from the streets by the beach, bicycles and some amazingly rough parts of the road.
The bike never came together. I was surprised at the legitimacy because I expected this to be a “pressure on the restriction” but Jackrabbit XG Pro didn’t really care.
Only when I felt I was drawing a trailer, it was slow during the uphill sections that had a wheel drive due to slow speed, high torque and 100 pounds of kayak.
I kept the average speed-about 5 to 8 miles per hour (8-13 km / h) before everything in kayak is full of camping equipment, it felt sweet-but the electronic bike never looked.
Phase Two: Jackrabbit Package on Kayak
When I turned it into a throwing point after a few miles of my kayak towing, it is time to test the theory that I really did not test: Can you put Jacabit on the bow of a kayak at the sit -in and still do?
It turns out: type.
I shrink the bike as much as I could – the outside batteries, the front wheel, the handle side -side – and fired it into the bow. I had added a few tie points to Kayak the night before to make it easier to whip, and they definitely helped.
The trailer, the wheel, and the loose -fitting gears filled the rest of the space and I put myself around it. Barely, I had to put the gears just to fit my feet. After moving the tent, the sleep pad and a few other gear bits to create more toe room, I finally succeeded in pushing it. A quick pulling down the water line reminded me of how heavy the kayak was, but now there is no return. Was either sink or swimming. Or, well, I hope not
Handle unknown
Despite being overly loaded, Kayak (hard) was floated, and I went to a non -residential island I paid through satellite maps.
The leg was initially a little stressful until I was quite sure that three inches (7.5 cm) from the freeboard I was left was enough to keep me away from capsules. The awakening that left the Penton jet ski and boats made everything exciting from all the wrong ways.
I was around it for a while until I finally found the cutting of the mangrove trees I had seen through a vague satellite map, though I had a few false warnings for me, because I discovered others too small that they didn’t appear on the pixel images.
When I finally found the right cut in the fears and dragged to a large, coarse sand slope, it felt somewhere “I can’t believe it has worked” Vat “Oh no, now I have to open it all.”
Island life, electronic bike style
I finally did not open the bike in the camp. It had made a lot of effort to load it, and I could only see the cleansing I had seen on satellite images, so I saw a short walk through the trees, so I paste the boat and bike in the fears to keep them away from the water and rotate the rest.
I found the cleansing, set up my tent, and baked dinner on a branch stove under the crawling suspicion that Florida Monkey Every moment he was going to join me.
The month was just a slippery, but I had a 44 -foot (13 -meter) solar light that sent me a bullitte, and so I set it for a little extra light at sunrise. The area of Florida is currently undergoing burns, meaning that due to recent drought conditions it results in excess dry brush. I examined the fish and wildlife section and confirmed that I could use camping stove, so between that small fire and the light of the string, I can see the night around my small camp. The two were just enough to illuminate all the mice that had come out at sunset, apparently taking the island.
I thought I had cleaned my mess or traveler kit after dinner, but during the night I was listening and watching and watching all the rats through my mesh.
While I was waiting for my morning coffee and barley, I almost decided to jump and go to the granulo bar that I had safely left in my tent.
Mice are not dangerous in themselves, but they endure diseases, so I didn’t use that cooking gear until I had a chance to clean it completely.
Back to the back: as wild.
The packaging of everything was as strong as the second time. I uploaded everything again to Kayak, and after the last look at the beautiful sunrise, I pushed into the free water of the Mexican Gulf.
I have been considering a longer hand that reduces my roadblock, but once I came out in deeper water and removed waves, I quickly called a audible and realized that I had to remember extra miles on the road because drowning in asphalt was much less.
I got it for the beach and I was never happier than hearing the sand under my bow, because I made kayak for the last time the beach.
I went back to the sand, I closed the kayak to the trailer, reloaded the bike and went to the highway and to the nearest coastal city – tired, painful, a little sunburn, but extraordinary.
Jackrabbit XG Pro is not so I mean For towing kayak to the beach and then boating with it. But this is what makes this microbiology into such a fun tool. This is small, but capable. Weird with surprise roughly.
It is true that Jackrabbit’s small electronic bicycles are among the boats to get such a small boat room, though I think this may be the smallest ship who has brought one of them. They are also popular on the light aircraft and the RV community-the electronic bike-size wheels to board their destination.
Do I recommend repeating this trip? Only if you enjoy solving the problem of flight, suspicious decision and occasional Kayak existential crisis. But yes – it was completely worth it.
And given this, about the worst scenario for portability and power in a small electronic bike, most people need to find Jackrabbit XG Pro more than being able to travel daily or an entertaining adventure off the road.
