Inside Upway: Healthy Work-Life Boundaries
Of course, setting boundaries requires self-discipline, which, of course, I have struggled with. I encourage you to create a list of things you want to prioritize yourself and, if necessary, discuss it with your next one-on-one meeting. Together, you can know how to make it happen.
The top of my list now includes: Put my children in bed every weeknight, being present with my family on weekends and holidays (if I have work, I take myself in a separate room), and spending quality time with my husband at least once a week. These are everything I’ve discussed in the past at work, and they form my schedule preferences and work routines. I am far perfect to manage my time, and emergencies are up, but I make a concerted effort every week. But remember that we’re all different, so a one-size-fits-all chance policy is not the solution.
Fast-moving stars like upway have many (or all) team members and “on-call” tasks, meaning that when things blow up at unexpected and useless times, they have to deal with them. It is just how life is, and the nature of moving fast. However, we can still be smart about how to manage the stress associated with our work.
