NYC is handing out free, safer electric bikes to delivery workers

The New York City Ministry of Transport has a new idea to help the most unreliable electronic bicycles on the city streets: let the riders replace them for free for UL -compatible electric bikes.
The program targets delivery workers on electronic bicycles, which are the backbone of food delivery services and important packages of the city. Millions of people rely on such workers for timely delivery, but Low wage and savage conditions This has forced many riders to look for low-cost electric bikes-actually the type of electronic bicycles that have probably received at least a safety certificate.
The NYC DOT has already begun accepting new electronic bike trading applications, which is often seen for delivery workers with non -compatible electric bikes as well as scooters/motorcycles that are not really eligible as electronic bikes, despite the epidemic in the industry.
Interestingly, the program even accepts gasoline motorcycles that are not able to register legally in DMV, including things that lack Vienna.
In exchange for trade in a non -licensed vehicle, the worker receives a new UL -licensed electric bike with an UL -licensed battery.

There are a few items to be eligible. The worker had to earn at least $ 1,500 in one of the five areas of New York City by working in the food delivery industry last year in 2024, living in one of the five areas of New York City, and having one of the qualified business.
The program participates in it without any additional fees for delivery workers. However, the supply of free electric bikes is described as “limited”.
Free electronic bikes are not donated first and with first services. If the eligible applicant pool has more than the number of free electric bikes available, NYC Dot uses a lottery system to select participants in the program.
