Mucky Nutz MugGuard Rear on test – Can the massive British mudguard convince on the trails?
The back of McKee Nutz Muggard is definitely heavy, and it is designed not only to keep water and mud from your back, but also to withstand the hardship of the challenge. But is it matching the excellent performance of its front-spacific counter behind Muggard?

Our colleagues have already placed McKee Nutz at the Enduro Mountainbike magazine Front Fender By the Wringer in their widespread ones “The best mudgard of 2024“Comparison test, we decided to test the version behind Muggard. Even at first glance, this fender is impressive: it is” you don’t pass! “At each pumpkin and clay patch it goes on its 216 g system weight and 834 mm long.
When the atmosphere is cleared, the back of the Muggard is thanks to the safe sliding mechanism, which allows you to remove a portion, reducing the weight to 150 grams. Both versions are made from 100% recycled plastic and are available from the UK for £ 38 (approx. € 45) plus shipping. The back of the McKee Nutz Muggard also protects the lower bracket area and shock and is suitable for 26 ″ to 29 to wheel sizes and tire widths range from 3 ″.
Installing the rear of McKee Nutz Muggard
During our testing period, McKee Nutz introduced a useful upgrade to the Velcro straps included to mount the rear of Muggard, and there was no space for complaints. Compared to previous versions, these straps are now widespread and come with a better rubber coating and small plastic tensioning clip, which makes the installation easier.
Thanks to these improvements, it is also possible to remove the back of Muggard occasionally, for example, for bike park sessions. The initial installation does not take more than 15 minutes and does not require tools. Once the main body is fitted, the process will change very fast, as the whole system can be easily removed and re -attached using four velcro straps.

We recommend that we start with a small version of the fender for initial installation, as it provides less leverage. Ideally, assemble them before attaching all individual parts to the bike and thread the velcro straps through the designated slots in the plastic mountes. It stores rubber defenders in the mountain, preventing them slipping during installation. Using the dial, you can determine the right angle for your bike and lock it with two round plugs.
After assembling, place the entire system on the seat and tighten the four velcro straps. Although all contact points are rubber enough, it is advisable to use an additional protective tape layer under the straps, as the combination of water and sand will eventually damage the paint. In addition, some plastic edges are still a little tough, but can be easily smooth with a sandpaper or stanley knife.

Behind McKee Nutz Muggard on the sidewalk
When installing it properly, the back of the muggard sits safely on new attachment straps. However, we were initially doubtful: did the fender be ripened after the first few jumps of this long liver arm? Not at all! Muggard also holds well in tough, challenging paths. Although the old attachment system is somewhat awkward, the upgrade reduces the noise, producing only small rattle on very tough sections and large jumps.
The effect of the fender is particularly impressive, it is not surprising since it was developed in the UK: the length and width of the muggard, the water and the soil behind your back or shock, even in the foulest environment. However, after some uses changing from tall to smaller version. More problematic than expected. When traveling in wet conditions, the mud accumulates in the overlapping area between the two fender sections, thus almost together with carbon paste.

Conclusions About McKee Nutz Muggard
This fender designed for the British climate must be delivered – and it does. The defense performance of the McKee Nutz Muggard is just excellent. Thanks to the better mounting system, the Fender is now completely trail-ready, although it can be eliminated with reasonable effort if needed. However, considerable energy and patience is required to switch between long and short versions, as the sliding procedure is prevented by dust.
