The importance of wearing a helmet while riding an electronic bike
Recently I came across a strange story on the forum. A 15-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic accident, going on an electric bike on the La River at night. He was not in the helmet, and in the report of the medical expert concluded that if he were in him, he could survive.
And I’m sorry that this boy died in this way.
This tragedy is calling for wakefulness. We often think that nothing wrong will happen to us, that we are somehow insured against the accidents, but the reality is that no one can predict when and where an accident can happen. The only thing we can control is how we prepare for it – and wearing the helmet is one of the most important steps we can do.
Why are helmets important
Electric bicycles are becoming more popular, offering convenience and a fun trip. But they can also be dangerous if riders do not take proper precautions. Even a slight drop or accident can lead to serious injuries, especially when riding at greater speed.
Slakes are designed to protect the most vulnerable part of your body – head. During the accident, they help to absorb the effects of exposure and significantly reduce the risk of brain fractures. The elimination inside the helmet works on the spread of exposure to a large area, preventing localized damage to the skull. This can make the difference between life -threatening injury and survival drop.
While they provide critical protection against the fractures of the skull and brain bleeding, they do not protect against certain types of brain injuries, such as rattling the brain inside the skull. Slakes cannot prevent a condition such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is caused by re -brain injury over time.
Other safety tips for riders
In addition to wearing helmet, there are several important stages of security that should take every rider to reduce the risks on the road:
- Limit night ride: Avoid skating at night as far as possible. Low visibility can make it difficult to notice obstacles, pedestrians or vehicles over time to respond. If you have to go for darkness, make sure your bike is equipped with strong front and rear lights to increase your visibility for others.
- Be alert and be careful: At night, your environment is more difficult to evaluate, so it is important to remain extra vigilant. Keep track of possible dangers such as potholes, debris or pedestrians, especially in poor lighting areas. The trip is distracted – whether it is music, using the phone or even fatigue – can increase the risk of accident.
- A trip at smaller speed: When I ride the night, it is important to lower the speed. The reduced visibility makes it difficult to respond to unexpected obstacles or changes in the road, so the slower pace gives you more time to respond and help maintain the best control over your bike.
- To obey the legislation on traffic: Always follow the rules of the road, as in the car driving. Use cycling strips where they are available, signal your turns, as well as subject to traffic lights and signs. Not only does it keep you safe, it also reduces the risk of collision with vehicles and pedestrians.
- Regular bike service: Make sure your E-Bike is in good working order. Check the brakes, tires and battery regularly to make sure everything works properly. This reduces the chances of mechanical failure that can lead to an accident.
- Wear an additional protective equipment: In addition to the helmet, think that wearing the knee and elbows, especially when you go on uneven surfaces or at greater speed. Protective transmission can significantly reduce the severity of injuries in case of fall or collapse.
Call to security
Although we can never eliminate the likelihood of an accident, we can take action to minimize the risks and make sure we are as safe as possible. A helmet is a small price you need to pay for your life.
Please, if you are a rider with an electric bicycle or know whom, who goes, share this message. Let’s help spread the message that wearing the helmet is not mandatory. No one should feel the pain of losing a loved one with something so preventive.
Thank you for taking the time to read it. Stay safe and ride responsibly.
