VOLT’s Response on the TfL E-Bike Ban
There has been broad media coverage of transport for the latest London decision (TFL) to stop Non-incorrect e-bikes From Tubi, Elizabeth Line and London Overground.
In Volt, we believe in the power of e-Bikelets to transform the urban journey. We also believe that security should always be of higher advantage. With that advantage, there is a real need for clear, evidence -based policies, which do not inadvertently limit sustainable transport options that already adhere to strict security regulations.
Our opinions on this issue are presented on the standard evening, Metro, Cycling Weekly, Road.cc, and further trade through MSN and Ink. This debate is gaining withdrawal, and for a good reason. London is at a critical point on its journey to a cleaner, more active transport network. E-Bikes are an essential part of this visionproviding a practical and environmentally friendly alternative to cars, reducing blockages and improving air quality. A blanket ban rises to undermine these benefits and discourage more people to make two wheels.
Safety first – always
There is no doubt that safety concerns about bicycle batteries should be taken seriously. Increasing incidents involving E-Bikes unregulated or modified It is a valuable concern, and the security of passengers in public transport must be an advantage. However, instead of imposing comprehensive prohibitions, we need clear differences between E-bikes safe, consistent- (like those we design in volt) – and the flood of unregulated models that are causing concern.
Certified e-Bikes that complement the UK and EU regulations are subject to extensive security testing and adhere to strict production standards. The real issue lies with non -compliant or confused batteries, often found in models made with free or illegally modified. Instead of punishing the responsible bicycle knights, a more intended approach is the clearest regulations, improved implementation and public awareness campaigns-would help address security concerns without compromising sustainable transport elections.
Keeping London moving

Policies should reflect this reality, promoting security while enabling more people to embrace e-biccallets as a valuable way of transport.
We will continue to fight to ensure that bicycle policies are fair, informed and thought forward. This means delaying clearer rules, better enforcement of existing laws, and continuous discussions with policymakers to ensure that security measures do not come at the expense of progress.
